JK Rowling's prejudices continue to grow

April 6 was International Asexuality day, and on that day, JK Rowling, Harry Potter author and someone who is very well known for being very transphobic, posted a tweet saying, “Happy International Fake Oppression Day to everyone who wants complete strangers to
know they don't fancy a shag.” Let’s break down this tweet and how this also contributes to a larger idea of Aphobia in society.
First off, she says “Happy International Fake Oppression Day.” Her tweeting this is a form of oppression. She is actively diminishing recognition for a marginalized group. How can someone say that a group isn’t oppressed by actively oppressing them? How does that work? I simply do not understand the mental gymnastics she had to do to say that.
Also, Asexual people are oppressed in general. According to an article by Galop in 2022, 35% of Asexual people “have been subjected to conversion practices” which is 13% higher than the average LGBTQIA+ person (22%). Asexual people are more likely to go through one of the most oppressive regiments used against queer people.
