In Catalonia a people are faced with a movement , a movement for independence.
In America a people are faced with a movement , a movement for independence.
The first is one that makes a claim of a defence of sovereignty.
The second is one that makes a claim of sovereignty of defence.
The first finds its form in , amongst other organisations, the age old, Republican Left of Catalonia, ERC.
The second finds its form in, amongst other organisations , the age old, Republican party and the National Rifle Association, NRA.
There is no real connection between the two , but the differences are as stark as the issues that collided this week, grabbing our attention , preying on our feeling, bothering our humanity.
All so very senseless. All so completely unnecessary. All so very and completely sad.
The people of Catalonia have no great need for automatic independence , when they live in a democracy with regional autonomy and a sense of history that should lead to a greater awareness that unity is better than Fascism and King Felipe far better than Franco. But the answer to whatever grievances by now endemic, that might be yet present, is not the bullets of police firing at crowds.
The people of America have no great need for automatic weapons, when they live in a democracy with regional autonomy and a sense of history that should lead to a greater awareness that George Washington is not president and a militia not necessary in the person of one individual and the right to bear arms not meant to mean a right to an arsenal of war .But the result is the bullets of a lone lunatic firing at crowds.
Hearts go out to those who are the victims of situations , those which are perhaps avoidable , or maybe unavoidable, but all or often unnecessary , and calling upon our humanity .
