Age discrimination – lessons from recent cases

In the year 2020/21, some 15,336 age discrimination claims were brought before employment tribunals across the UK. This figure is striking in that it is significantly higher than both the number of age discrimination claims brought in previous years and, probably even more surprisingly, the number of discrimination claims brought in relation to any other protected characteristic. How employers deal with age in the workplace is a tricky topic. We take a look at a couple of recent cases which show how courts are currently considering claims relating to age-based discrimination.
